LASIEC Chairman confirms 4-Year tenure for Lagos LG Executives and Legislatures

Hon. Justice Ayotunde Phillips (Retd)

The Chairman, Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), Hon. Justice Ayotunde Phillips (Retd) has confirmed the provision of the law stipulating four-year tenure for Chairmen and Councillors of Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAS) in the State.

To this end, Justice Philips has directed LASIEC staff to buckle-up at work this year in preparation for next year’s Local Government elections in the State.

In her new year message to LASIEC staff, the retired bencher urged them to improve on their work abilities in readiness for the conduct of a free and fair Local Government elections in 2021.

This development has, however, put paid to the controversy over the tenure of Local Government Chairmen and Councillors which the State House of Assembly had increased from three to four years per term and signed into law with the consent of the former Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode.
