The Lagos State Government through the Office of Special Adviser on Education in conjunction with the Lagos State University on Friday met some of the University’s stakeholders within its campus to begin  the process of reclaiming the portions of the University’s land encroached upon by residents of surrounding communities in Ojo.

The meeting was a follow up to an initial resolutions reached after a wide and robust engagements between the State Government, the Lagos State University and the leaders of the affected communities.

The present administration under Mr. Babjide Sanwo-Olu met with the land stakeholders to continue the engagements with emphasis on the need for regularization.

The Vice Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, SAN, in his remarks, narrated the genesis of the meeting. ” When the Special Adviser on Education assumed office, we briefed him on all activities of the University, one of the issues being the Land Regularization Process.

“The Special Adviser, after our discussion, briefed the Governor on the issue, that is why he has now come to give us feedback on the meeting with the Governor so that we can know where we are and how to move forward.

The Special Adviser on Education, Mr Tokunbo Wahab said that the earlier agreement had been reviewed, adding that the present administration has agreed to continue with the former arrangement.

“The Governor has also directed that you be given a registered deed of assignment. He also agreed to waive the consent fee which you were supposed to pay,” the Special Adviser stated.

He explained that the window to regularize the land would be opened for just six months as the governor has  directed that the consent form be processed within that period so as not to cause undue delay.

“For those who have really encroached by building within compound of the University, we will sit down and discuss the impact on LASU both now and in the future and agree on how to handle them,” he added.
