LAGFERRY, NIMASA to Collaborate on Operational Efficiency

The Managing Director, Lagos Ferry Services LAGFERRY), Mr. Abdoulbaq Ladi-Balogun has expressed the readiness of the Agency to partner with the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for operational efficiency.

Ladi-Balogun, who stated this in his address during a courtesy visit by the LAGFERRY management to NIMASA Office in Apapa, commended the cordial inter-agency relationship between NIMASA, National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) and LAGFERRY, noting that such collaboration is rare and mutually beneficial.

While assuring that the present administration is fully committed to the intermodal transportation system, Ladi-Balogun disclosed that the government plans to expand the scope of daily commuting on waterways to meet international standards through the construction of a world-class terminal at the Mile-2 jetty to connect rail and the bus transit.

He asserted that all the eight boats commissioned by Governor Sanwo-Olu recently on behalf of LAGFERRY were built in Nigeria by local manufacturers.

“The boats we are deploying for operations were built by our local builders here in Lagos and they adhered strictly to international best practices and safety rules in manufacturing the boats. The ferries parade state of the art technology like wifi, onboard entertainment, charging points, real-time tracking and monitoring for safety of passengers and boats etc”, he stated.

He called on NIMASA to assist in regular training for boat captains and deckhands on safety rules and regulations, explaining that safety is the primary focus of the operational module and core value of LAGFERRY.

In his remarks, the Director-General of NIMASA, Mr. Dakuku Peterside, represented by the Director of Operations, Engr. Rotimi Fasakin, thanked the team for the visit, just as he pledged to collaborate and support the Lagos State Ferry Services to enhance operational efficiency.

He also commended the State Government for its commitment to Intermodal Transport System, especially the development of Water Transportation system as an alternative to decongest roads, noting that the launch of eight brand new boats within a very short period of time is praiseworthy.
