Group empowers 500 Lagos women, youths

The ‘Lagos Change Group’ says those questioning what President Muhammadu Buhari has done in three years are either mischievous or have refused to acknowledge the facts.

Facilitator of the group, Alhaji Adedayo Thomas, spoke on Monday in Lagos, at an empowerment programme it organised for women and youths in Oshodi area of Lagos State.

Thomas, who is also the Executive Director, National Films and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), said facts on ground showed that the president had done so much in virtually all the sectors of the economy.

The ‘Lagos Change Group’ is mobilising support President Muhammadu Buhari.

The facilitator of the group, who is also a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oshodi, the president deserved more support for the various achievements of his government.

He called for support, not only for the present administration but also for Buhari to get a second term in office.

“It is because of Buhari’s approval that the Airport road, Lagos /Abeokuta Express road and others are presently getting attention,” he said.

Thomas said that the Federal Government had also been working on most of its own critical roads across the country.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has done well in improving the infrastructural development of the country by directing work on abandoned federal roads across the country.

“And for those roads that states had applied to fix in view of limited resources, the president has given instant approval to state governments’ intervention with an agreement to refund cost.

“That is why you see accelerated work on Airport Road, Lagos Abeokuta Express Road and other federal roads across the state,” he said.

Thomas said that the administration’s achievement in the area of agriculture was noteworthy

According to him, five million farmers have been empowered through government’s rice revolution.

He said no fewer than 300,000 graduates had been empowered through N-Power, among other social investment programmes.

Thomas urged the people of Oshodi and Lagos to keep faith with the APC and continue to support the president.

“The APC government has done much to improve things in the country and the state, and even Oshodi is feeling the impact.

“For the first time, we are witnessing more federal projects in Oshodi and even appointments.

“We are grateful to the Federal government and we assure the president of total support for his reelection”, he said.

500 women and youths in the Oshodi area were empowered at the event.

Beneficiaries went home with deep freezers, gas cookers, food items, among others at the programme.

Thomas said the Lagos Change group organised the empowerment programme to impact on lives in the area.

He said the programme was in phases and enjoined those not captured in the first phase to wait for their turn.

The NFVCB boss said that another phase would be organised in a couple of months, promising that. additional 500 people would benefit.

Also speaking at the event, a former Chairman of Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area, Mr Afeez Ipesa, commended Thomas for the initiative.

He commended him for demonstrating that he was a true representative of the area with the programme.

Ipesa urged beneficiaries to put the items into good use.
