As a way of improving grassroots sports development in the state, the Ogun State government has concluded arrangements to partner with Community Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (COMPASS) the umbrella of community media in the country in developing grassroots sports in its entirety.

This revelation was made during a courtesy visit by the group led by its President, Tayo Aderinola to Okemosan office of the Ogun state commissioner for youth and sports, Hon Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde last week Thursday in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Aderinola said that the group is seeking to collaborate with the government by bringing the stakeholders together to fashion out how both parties can improve and promote sports in the state which will no doubt move sports to the next level.

“We’re actually here to see how we can help to promote your activities in the state as far as sports in concerned coupled with a corporate sporting event tagged “Ogun state Youths and Sports Summit which we believe will bring the state back to top when and where necessary” he stated.

He continued “sports living legends like Chief Segun Odegbami, Chief Falilat Ogunkoya and some other sports veterans who are from the state will be included in the programme not leaving out corporate organisations to share their experiences with the new generation of athletes in order to achieve the set goals for which the programme is being put together in tandem with federal government policy of adopt-an-athlete programme”.

In his remark, Dr. Kehinde commended the group for bringing such an enviable and laudable idea to the table for collaboration while reiterating that Dr Dapo Abiodun with his five points agenda will wholeheartedly be willing to work with the Community Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (COMPASS) to empower the youth for a smooth and robust sports sector in the state.

He stressed further “Ogun as a state will not be found wanting based on the agenda of Dr Dapo Abiodun led administration with things in their normal places to ensure we achieve the needed results. The action plan has already been set rolling and we’re hopeful that we’ll achieve the best sports oriented results”. he said

In his closing remark, the president of the association, Comrade Tayo Aderinola however, thanked the commissioner for giving the group the worthwhile attention with a promise to give state the needed attention to make it better than it was.
